The meaning behind the word Namaste, as defined by Mahatma Gandhi:

“I honor the place in you where the entire Universe resides. I honor the place in you of Light, Love, Truth, Peace, and Wisdom. I honor the place in where when you are in that place, and I am in that place, there is only one of Us.”

Namaste is used as a Hindu greeting between people similar to hello. It is also typically spoken in a yoga class either at the beginning, the end, or both. Some teachers use it as the name for prayer position though I prefer the name Anjali mudra. As used here I celebrate and honor the inner divinity in you, same as that in me, the place of oneness. I also welcome you to the practice of yoga and this site.
